The renovation rollercoaster continues! You may remember the sinking southeast corner where we addressed the foundation concerns early on. A couple of weeks ago, it was finally time for phase two: removing the decayed beam over the window. Even though the rot was visible, no one fully grasped the extent.
Since this beam supports the brick above it, the crew added temporary supports while removing the header. As they began to remove it, they found a rotten surprise #42 - it had turned into mush they could scoop out with their hands. We're still shocked at this corner's ability to defy gravity with little to no support.
Thankfully, our contractor Brian and his crew safely replaced the beam and stabilized the corner without incident. Whew!
